Curb air pollution due to stubble burning in northwest India
It is a very popular problem during the end of fall (early winter) when winds are a bit slow and stubble burning is rampant. Farmers burn stubble as they want to quickly plant the next winter crop. So, the fastest way to do this after fall harvest is to burn the stubble. Why not give every group of villages one machine that cuts the stubble into very small pieces which can go into the ground during tilting? Need to look at the cost of air pollution effecting > 100 million people and cost of the machines. Other options are fast decomposition (which still takes 1 month), making other things from straw needs transportation which is not economical as it is a low-density material.
